Learning to focus or to concentrate is NOT an easy task for a school age child. There are so many other things to think about. Thinking about only one thing at a time for even one minute is a major task. Thus repetition has been the answer to teaching young children.
Children sing their ABC’s, they look at pictures and color the alphabet dozens of times before they begin to actually remember the correct sequence of the alphabet.
When you introduce the art of concentration to a young child they look at you with a questionable look in their eyes. If you share concentration in a game, especially a game that they find fun, your efforts are maximized. The child begins to understand the formula for successful concentration. The more he thinks about a subject, object or alphabet, the more he’ll remember and the faster she’ll learn.
